Noxubee County Hospital
The Challenge
Noxubee Hospital in Macon, Mississippi, operates a community hospital, clinic and nursing home. In late 2002, Noxubee Hospital management recognized the need for assistance in meeting the requirements of the Privacy Rule and Security Rule components of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The challenge involved identifying all gaps between Noxubee Hospital's business practices and the requirements of the Privacy and Security Rules. In addition, these gaps had to be identified for all three entities, and corrective actions needed to be established and implemented.
Third Day's Solution
Third Day Solutions assisted Noxubee Hospital in achieving compliance to all aspects of the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules. Third Day Solutions performed an assessment of Noxubee Hospital business practices, then identified and planned the implementation of the corrective actions necessary to achieve HIPAA compliance.
As part of the assessment phase, Third Day Solutions compared Noxubee Hospital business practices with the business practices required by HIPAA for the purpose of identifying potential gaps between the two. In performing this comparison, or "gap analysis", the project team identified the areas that needed to be addressed by Noxubee Hospital in order to move closer to HIPAA compliance by the applicable deadlines. The result of the gap analysis was a report outlining the findings of the study and recommendations for the corrective actions needed.
With assistance from Noxubee Hospital, Third Day Solutions then performed the corrective actions identified in the gap analysis report. Third Day Solutions also researched the requirements of the HIPAA regulations in the area of electronic data interchange (EDI), and provided guidance to Noxubee Hospital on the actions necessary to achieve compliance with that standard.
