Third Day Solutions performed the requirement
analysis and designed, developed, and implemented the Mississippi Student
Information System (MSIS). MSIS is a comprehensive web-based state level
student information system. The system is currently marketed as the Electronic
Student Personnel Information Reporting Enterprise System. Further information
on eSPIRESTM can be obtained at in the eSPIRESTM section of the products
area of our website.
Since the deployment of MSIS throughout the state, Third Day Solutions has completed a number
of projects to enhance the functionality and usability of the system. These
projects include: Assignment of Student Identifiers
Third Day Solutions designed an automated solution to handle mass assignment of a unique
Student ID. This automated process generates ID numbers, identifies duplicates,
reports errors, and provides a mechanism for each school/district to correct
errors and reprocess. Schools can utilize this process each year to assign
Student IDs for Kindergarten students who are enrolling for the first time in a
public school. Third Day Solutions uses the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) as the underlying
format for the data exchange with the schools and districts. Java scripts are
used to edit and validate the exchange data.
Authorized District or School users are also allowed to request a unique
student identifier for a new student from the web-based application. Student Tracking
Third Day Solutions developed an automated solution to enable more effective student tracking,
increasing the accuracy of reporting in regards to the student dropout rate. In
particular, students transferring to another school or another state are
reported back to their original school, so that their permanent absence will
not be counted in the student dropout rate.
Third Day Solutions also has developed a process for transferring students that enables the new
school to access the information needed to place the student in the appropriate
classes and follow-up on program placement. Special Education
Third Day Solutions developed a web accessible interface for the Office of Special Education to
aid them in their IDEA and state requirements. Data is collected in real-time
per student to meet the federal requirements for Tables 1-5 (December 1 Count,
Personnel, Placement, Exiting, and Discipline). Reports were created to extract
the Special Education personnel data needed for federal reports and to
calculate teacher units. Aggregate data can be displayed as a district profile
or Special Education Report Card. Vocational Education (Career and Technical Education)
Third Day Solutions completed a project to integrate Career and Technical Education data into
the statewide student information system.
Final Enrollment Report - This report is sent to the Office of Vocational
Education from the district offices, the data is collected by teachers and
Classification of Instructional Programs (CIPS) codes. The data is usually
collected and sent in each summer.
Follow-up Report - This report is a follow-up of the final enrollment. Child Nutrition (Free / Reduced Lunch)
Third Day Solutions developed an automated solution to match MSIS data with Department of Human
Services data for determining if a student is eligible for the Free / Reduced
Lunch program.
The Free and Reduced Lunch function will allow authorized users to query for
and enter free or reduced lunch status for each student within the school or
district.
